Digital Goa, July 14 – Presidents of 67 Communidades from across Goa gathered at the Chinchinim Communidade office today as part of the ongoing “Save Communidade, Save Goa” campaign to voice strong opposition to the state government’s recent decision to regularise illegal houses built on Communidade lands. During the meeting, the Communidade representatives unanimously resolved to oppose the move tooth and nail, calling it a direct threat to their land rights and heritage. They warned that if the government does not revoke the decision, they are prepared to escalate the matter to the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, Minister Mauvin Godinho has reiterated that Goa government will table a bill to regularise unauthorised houses on government and communidade land. He added that courts have always allowed a window to legalise such structures and never ordered blanket demolitions.
