Digital Goa, July 18 – North Goa Police have busted an interstate Irani gang involved in a spate of gold chain snatching across the state, solving at least four cases. Two accused Abbas Aslam Zaidi (34) from Thane and Sharif Shaha from Nasik, Maharashtra were arrested at Merces with the help of beat staff and locals. The duo, riding a Maharashtra registered motorcycle, had attempted to snatch a gold mangalsutra from a 62-year-old woman in Mapusa earlier this morning. They were intercepted and caught after a chase and search operation led by Old Goa Police along with the help of locals while they were attempting to flee. Both were assaulted by the mob while attempting to flee. Investigations have linked the gang to three other gold chain snatching cases reported in Bhatiwado and Carascowado Parra and Bamanbhat, Merces, dating back to February and April 2025, informed police. North Goa SP Rahul Gupta informed that the gang members typically arrived in Goa in the morning, committed the robberies during the day, and left the state by evening.
