Digital Goa, July 21 – In a first-of-its-kind initiative in India, Konkan Railway is all set to launch a car-ferry train service between Kolad (Maharashtra) and Verna (Goa) starting August 23, just ahead of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. The train will carry up to 40 private cars, with freight charges of ₹7,875 per car each way. Maximum of 3 passengers per car will be allowed to travel in the attached passenger coaches. Train journey will take 12 hours, as opposed to usual 20–22 hours by road.
