Digital Goa, July 23 – CM Pramod Sawant said today that the State’s finances are strong, with a budget surplus, reduced borrowing, and ongoing job-oriented reforms. Drawing a colourful analogy during the Assembly session, Sawant said, “The budget is not something trivial like a packet of chips, but a carefully curated effort—like a Chaturthi matoli.” He said the fiscal deficit had dropped sharply from 2.5% of the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) in 2018-19 to just 1.2% in 2022-23. The CM also stressed that Goa has one of the lowest debt-to-GSDP ratios among Indian states. CM’s matoli analogy comes on the backdrop of statement made by Goa Forward’s Vijai Sardesai in the assembly that Goa Budget is like a chips packet with lot of air and very little content.
