Digital Goa, 11, July – Goa government has pre-published the Goa State Heritage Policy 2025, approved by the cabinet on June 11, 2025. The policy has been “pre-published for information of all and for its implementation,” states the notification issued in this regard. The policy seeks to protect the state’s diverse natural, cultural, archaeological, and geological heritage while integrating conservation efforts into sustainable tourism and community development. It includes a detailed checklist of 256 important heritage sites covering natural, cultural, archaeological, and geological heritage. Additionally, it identifies around 50 prehistoric sites, a taluka-wise list of 122 heritage houses, and 46 authentic folk art forms categorized by typology. The policy also lists 61 traditional occupations documented under the Goenche Daiz Scheme for preservation and promotion. Key proposals include setting up the Goa State Heritage Council, creating a GIS-based heritage asset registry, providing financial incentives and tax rebates for private heritage conservation, and introducing heritage education into academic curricula etc. The policy stresses community participation and stronger legal protections to prevent cultural crimes and encroachments.
